EMPO recently took part in a key workshop on the ongoing Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO) policy review in West Northamptonshire. The session, led by AECOM, brought together local stakeholders to discuss the current HMO landscape and consider potential policy changes.
The workshop, chaired by Beth Pelling from AECOM, included a presentation by researcher Paul Avery, who outlined lessons from previous HMO projects in Eastbourne and Norwich. He noted that West Northamptonshire faces its own set of challenges, requiring a tailored approach that balances the needs of landlords, tenants, and the wider community.
Attendees included representatives from EMPO, Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service, and the University of Northampton. Together, the group explored ways to improve HMO policy while maintaining housing quality, fire safety, and neighbourhood wellbeing.
