Charnwood Borough Council has designated a specific area for Selective Licensing. The area includes two wards, Hastings and Lemyngton. All privately rented occupied residential accommodations within the designated areas must be licensed with the Council.
The designation, known as the Charnwood Borough Council Designations for Areas for Selective Licensing, will be in effect from 1st April 2023. The designation will expire on 31st March 2028 or earlier if revoked by the Council.
The standard licence fee will be £700 and will be for the duration of the designation of the Selective Licensing scheme, which will be five years from the commencement of the approval of the licence.
The designation applies to all private sector rented properties except those licensed under other schemes, subject to management orders, or occupied by registered providers. Landlords or managing agents of prescribed houses must apply to the Council for a license, failure to do so is punishable by an unlimited fine or financial penalty up to £30,000.
