Renters’ Rights Bill Delayed Until Autumn – What It Means for Landlords

The Renters’ Rights Bill has officially been delayed and will not be passed into law before the summer.

The Government confirmed that the Bill will return to the House of Commons in early autumn, with MPs due to reconsider amendments made in the House of Lords.

While the Bill will still undergo its scheduled Third Reading in the Lords today, this is now expected to be a procedural step, with the main discussions on the proposed amendments postponed until September 8, when Parliament reconvenes.

This delay means that landlords and property managers will have more time to prepare for the changes set to affect the private rental sector.

Once the Bill progresses, it is widely expected to receive Royal Assent before September 16, prior to the autumn party conference season.
