 1.Public Health Forum on Housing and Health

In partnership with Nottingham City Homes, NHS Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire Police, the City Council will be hosting a Public Health Forum on Housing and Health on Friday 11 November 2011.

Date: Friday 11 November 2011
Time: 12.15pm - 1.45pm
Venue: Room 4.1, Loxley House, Station Street, Nottingham

Housing conditions affect people's health. Inadequate housing causes or contributes to many preventable diseases and injuries, including respiratory, nervous system and cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and poor mental health and wellbeing. Amanda Schofield, Director of Strategy and Partnerships at Nottingham City Homes will chair this forum which aims to:

Raise awareness of impact of housing on health
Share information on housing conditions in Nottingham and the impact that this has on health and wellbeing outcomes
Identify links between housing and health provision
Provide an opportunity for discussion on how different services can contribute to the agenda
What will be covered?

Alice Jones from Nottingham City Homes, Kat Coggan from Age UK Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, Martin Cooke from Environmental Health and John Cockcroft from Housing Policy will present and lead discussions on:

Research which shows how improvements to social housing through the Decent Homes programme in Nottingham can contribute to improvements in tenants' health in some of the most health deprived areas of the city
Nottingham's current approach to private sector development (rented and owner occupier) and the health implications for vulnerable people
How Nottingham can develop housing as an early intervention strategy
Who should attend?
